Robotics

Robotics is the branch of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science that deals with the design, construction, operation, and application of robots, as well as computer systems for their control, sensory feedback, and information processing.

A robot is a programmable mechanical device that can perform tasks and interact with its environment, without the aid of human interaction.

 

The field of robotics is hude. On the hardware side, there are traditional mobile robots using whells or tracks, drones using propellers, manipulators whcih are like hands, humanoids, and combinations of them all. There are even micro-robots and nanobots. On the software contyrol side, research areas are vastly spread out again.

There is motion planning, path planning, computer vision, perception. New on the scene are robot swarms which consists of the coordination of multirobot systems which consist of large numbers of mostly simple physical robots.
